While staying in Kathmandu I stayed in a lovely little local hotel located on Lampinzat, near the Palace. Since it was my first time in Asia (or anywhere outside of Europe and North America for that matter) and alone I was a little nervous about going about on my own at first, but quickly got used to it. I asked the receptionist what I could go and see and he suggested I visit the Garden of Dreams (one of many glorious Kathmandu sights), which was located just a little walk down the street.
He gave me a map and marked the location of the hotel and the garden and I made my way. I walked down the street and saw the palace and pretty much walked right past the entrance, since it was surrounded by a tall, white wall. I quickly realized this and entered. Inside I was amazed at the change from the busy street outside, separated and isolated from the outside world by this wall. The garden was beautiful and exotic, every corner was inspiring and worth documenting. I felt compelled to take loads of inspiring photos there, capturing light, nature, reflections and the elements as the monsoon occasionally came for a visit while I sipped my mango juice on the terrace of the restaurant.
I enjoyed a nice conversation with a couple of people doing the same as I, just enjoying a day to ourselves, a kind of time out from our everyday lives. I was even offered a job, which I had to politely decline, during a conversation. (It was my first time in Asia and there was no way I could just stay there, I think my parents may have had a problem with that, seeing how it was hard enough to get them to approve on my trip at all at the time ^_^;;). The decor looked lovely and I considered coming back that evening or the following day but unfortunately only spent 3 days in Kathmandu, which passed all too quickly.
