The California Redwoods
We used to sometimes go up along the west coast from Canada to Hollywood in our RV. We’d drive the entire route along the coast and some of my dad’s favourite stops on this road trip included Mt. Baker, where apparently the water was freshest, and the California Redwoods.
These evergreen trees belong to the Sequoia species, which are some of the tallest trees on earth. They are thousands of years old and not only beautiful because of their red wood but fascinating because of their amazing height and incredible tree trunks, much thicker than you could possibly imagine.
The chandelier tree, through which a hole was carved in the 1930s, can be driven directly through by car and the route up there is a lovely, typical north american one, passing through forests and picturesque lakes. While passing by the tree house might be worth a visit, a souvenir shop located on the inside of a large hollowed out tree trunk (it’s on the road up and there’s a huge sign that reads world famous tree house, you can’t miss it).
